Saskatchewan Winter Race Series

It's back!

Provincials of Saskatchewan eSports.  We have changed the format from last year, but we are looking forward to 4 weeks of intense racing, all on varied courses. These races will be independent of each other, and the results will not be cumulative.  Go for the win, a personal best, or just try to get the best workout possible.

All ages and skill levels are welcome! Each race will be separated into A, B, C, and D categories, so please register in your most appropriate race category.

Races will begin on Thursday, February 24th at 7:15 CST

The courses are as follows:

February 24 - Suki's Playground - 2 laps - 37km

March 3 - Sand and Sequoias - 1 lap - 20.2km

March 10 - UCI Richmond - 2 laps - 32.4km

March 17 - Champ Elysees - 4 laps - 29.6km
*distances are approximate

February 24 - Suki's Playground - 2 laps - 37km

This route begins at the main lap banner, traveling downhill. You’ll ride through the flat farmlands, then cut across to the Castle Area, where a bit of climbing takes you up to the marketplace before you head to the Fishing Village.  Then it’s an easy descent down to Village Onsen and the Country Sprint before cutting across once more to the Castle Area, where you’ll keep going straight to ride through the lap banner once more.

March 3 - Sand and Sequoias - 1 lap - 20.2km

This loop begins just before the Fuego Flats start pens, taking you out to the desert for a flat and fast first half of the route. Leaving the town of Saddle Springs around 6 miles into your ride, the road ramps up a bit then begins to descend through the sequoia grove. The landscape is changing!

Hanging a right on your descent through the trees puts you on the road through Titans Grove, and this section has a completely different feel from the desert. With tight twists and constantly changing gradients it can feel like a rollercoaster at high speeds – so take a moment to slow down and enjoy the scenery. (Unless you’re in a race – then you’d better hang on tight!)

March 10 - UCI Richmond - 2 laps - 32.4km

The route begins on flat roads, taking riders through two sprint points: first the Monument Avenue sprint, then the Broad Street sprint. In terms of distance, this flat portion lasts for half of the route.

A long descent signals the start of the lumpier second half of the route. Riders will quickly arrive on the cobbles of famous Libby Hill – a twisty, punchy climb which will certainly put hurt in the legs and gaps in the peloton!

The 23rd Street KOM follows soon afterward – a short, straight, steep climb. Can you attack like Sagan and stay away?

Keep your speed up into the descent, then it’s a long, slow climb up to the false flat straightaway to the finish. The final kilometer is always a slugfest, and often the riders who go hard early are reeled back in when they run out of steam. Have you got what it takes?

March 17 - Champ Elysees - 4 laps - 29.6km

Avenue des Champs-Élysées runs between the Place de la Concorde (to the east) and the Place de l’Étoile (to the west, where the Arc de Triomphe is located). The official Champs-Élysées finishing circuit loops around the Jardin des Tuileries on the east end, and around the Arc de Triomphe on the west end.

You will begin with a lead-in around Jardin des Tuileries. The road around the back of the garden includes a short ramp down and back up – the steepest sections of the circuit. Once you finish your loop around the garden you will soon ride through the start/finish arch, which begins the official circuit.

Note the iconic cobbles under your wheels as you feel the road turn upward – you’re on Montée des Champs Elysées, the 1.3km climb up to the Arc de Triomphe. It’s not a steep climb, but you can expect attacks here every lap when racing. There’s also a sprint point here, which only raises the stakes higher!

Once you arrive at Place de l’Étoile the road levels out for a quick turn around the Arc de Triomphe, then it’s time to descend Avenue des Champs-Élysées.
